BIG BETTING BUSINESS TO GET THE BOOT? LIVE STREAMING LOSSES TO BE LIMITED?

As reported on our #ReelWorldSlotsSays last week the government are currently in the evidence gathering phase of the Gambling act 2005 reform. Hopefully you as a loyal #Slotter have already had your say, if not you can by following the link below.

The chair of the APPG Carolyn Harris, has made a massive indication that her committee are going head to head with the Big Boys of the betting world and in particular their online gaming provision. 79% of adults in the UK own a smart phone and the MP is concerned such access to these high stakes, highly volatile games is ever increasing the gambling addiction problem in the UK. She again brings up spending limits in her latest address to parliament “£10 a month subscription to the National lottery is very different to spending the same amount of money in 10 seconds on a gambling site.”

It is clear that the online gaming providers are going to have to toughen up on their spending caps and limits. It also brings into question websites and channels promoting irresponsible gambling practices. Here at #ReelWorldSlots the #HairySlotters only gamble what they can afford and indeed have budgets that make sense for the average gamer, a few hundred pounds over a weekend and in live streams not even that.

But there are sites that don’t live in the real world. I myself have just ended my subscription with a fruit based gaming site because of the ridiculous amounts of money being wagered and lost during live streams. Thousands of pounds lost in the matter of a few hours, with presenters trying to normalise it or worse entertain via exaggerated pain. The last one I watched they lost over £5000 on a “Bonus Hunt” opening. Imagine vulnerable viewers logging in to see those kind of losses as normal, part of the gaming process. Hopefully the Gambling act reform will stop sites like this and their irresponsible gaming practices.

Hopefully the government will see sense and not ban all gaming channels, but instead target those who aren’t getting it right.

What do you think? Should gaming channels have tougher rules? Comment below.

Until next time Slotters - May the odds be ever in your favour.
