The Reel-verse is not the only one running contests! A Witham resident has reached the final of the UK Shed of the Year competition after converting his garden shed into an amusement arcade.
Gary Pound entered the conversion into the annual competition’s Unexpected/Unique category, and is now in contention with 22 rivals for the prize.
“The past year has been an incredibly challenging time for all of us and, now more than ever, we’re aware of how important the humble shed can be,” said competition founder Andrew Wilcox.
“The high-calibre entries this year really prove why we set up the competition in the first place – to highlight the valuable role sheds can play in our lives, in our businesses and the positive impact they have on our wellbeing.”
Grandad Arcade features over 50 machines from the 1950s to the 1980s, and is the product of Pound’s 25- year history of collecting cabinets.
The shed has been shortlisted alongside entries including a lingerie-fitting boutique, a Catholic oratory and a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-inspired inventor’s workshop.
The competition is run by timber treatment company Cuprinol, and is now in its 15th year, with entry categories including Nature’s Haven, Workshop/Studio, and Budget.
Voting closes on 12 July, with the winner receiving a £1,000 cash prize, a wooden plaque and £100 of Cuprinol vouchers.
